Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are your hours?
Biba is open for Lunch, Tuesday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Our Dinner hours are Monday – Thursday from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays we are open from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. We are closed on Sundays.
2. Do you need a reservation, and if so, how far in advance should I make one?
Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for weekends or if you have a party of more than four people. Fridays and Saturdays tend to fill up about one week in advance, weekdays are usually fine if you call a day or two ahead. It is best to make reservations as early as possible so that you get the time that you want. Reservations can generally be made up to a year in advance.
3. Do you have valet parking?
Yes, we have valet parking for lunch & dinner. Valet is on the northeast
corner of 28th at Capitol. In addition, there is limited metered street parking available around the restaurant. The meters need to be fed up to 6:00 p.m., including Saturdays. There is a parking garage on the corner of 28th & N St. Payment is by credit card only.
4. Where are you located?
We are located at 2801 Capitol Avenue, right on the corner of 28th Street and Capitol Avenue.
5. What is the dress code?
Biba is a fine dining restaurant; there is not an official dress code, however, most people dress up for dinner. In the summertime, tank tops, shorts, flip-flops and other such casual attire are strongly discouraged.
6. What is the difference between the Lounge Dining Room and the Main Dining Room?
The Lounge Dining Room is what we call the first room as you enter the restaurant. It is a smaller dining section, is in the same room as the piano player and the bar is off to the far side. The Main Dining Room is our larger, main dining area. The lounge tends to be quieter because there are not as many tables in there and often people request the lounge so that they can enjoy the piano while they are dining. Both rooms offer the same menu, service, and table set-up.
7. When does the piano play?
Biba schedules a piano player most nights from 6:30 p.m. until closing. On Fridays and Saturdays, the piano starts at 6:00 p.m.
8. Do you have a corkage fee?
The corkage fee is $15.00 per 750 ml (a standard bottle).
9. Do you have cakes available for people’s birthdays?
The restaurant does not have whole cakes available for people’s birthdays, however we can put a candle in whatever dessert the birthday person orders. For special occasions, you are welcome to bring in a cake from a local bakery and for a small cake cutting fee ($1.50 per person) we will be happy to present your cake and then cut and serve it to your party. You are welcome to call the restaurant for bakery recommendations, there are several excellent bakeries in the area.
10. Can flowers be delivered to the restaurant?
Yes. Please make sure that the "reservation name", "time", date, and number in the party are indicated on the "Florist's card" so that we can ensure that your flowers will be waiting at the correct table for you when you arrive. Florists should be instructed to deliver flowers to the front door of the restaurant and at least 2 hours before a reservation time. Please feel free to call the restaurant for recommendations of good florists in the area.
11. Do you have more than just pasta on the menu?
Biba offers a complete menu that changes seasonally (four times a year). The menu includes a variety of appetizers, first courses (pastas & gnocchi), entrées, salads, and desserts. Entrée selections include fresh seafood, chicken, steaks, lamb, veal, duck, etc.
12. Is Biba ever there at the restaurant and will she sign my cookbook?
Biba is at the restaurant almost everyday. She works in her office most of the day, but is generally available to sign books and meet people. In the evenings, she usually arrives at the restaurant around 7:30 p.m. and is there until closing. Occasionally, she does take a well deserved night off in which case you are welcome to leave your book to be signed by her. It can be picked up or mailed to you once she signs it.
13. Does Biba have a full bar?
Yes. Biba offers a full bar with a wide variety of wines, cocktails, bottled beers, and liqueurs. You may also sit at the bar for lunch or dinner. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
14. What is the price range for lunch and for dinner?
The price for a typical lunch is around $40 - $60 (without cocktails or wine) for two people. For dinner the cost for two is generally about $80 - $100 (also without cocktails or wine).
15. What kind of atmosphere does the restaurant have?
The restaurant is an open, contemporary design, decorated in modern colors and features various artwork. All tables are set with white linen.
16. Can you seat people without reservations (walk–ins)?
We do not hold tables for walk-ins. On weekdays and at lunches, you can generally walk in and be seated immediately. Sometimes there are special events or shows in town that fill us up at lunch or on weeknights too, so it is a good idea to make a reservation if you know you are coming in, especially for Fridays and Saturdays. On busy nights there are a few small cocktail tables in the bar area that are available on a first-come, first-served basis and you can eat at the bar itself. Often times we will have last minute cancellations or no-shows, in which case we could seat a walk- in, so we always recommend checking in with the front desk and letting them know that you would like to wait and see if there are any openings available.
