Mikael Segouin, owner, and winemaker of Kaena makes great wine. Launched in 2001, this boutique winery produces an outstanding array of red and white wines. But it is evident that Mikael’s real passion is Grenache. And the Hapa Red 2016 illustrates quite vividly his love for Grenache. Although this wine is a blend of six varietals, the Grenache gives it the vitality, richness, flavor, and mouthfeel, all the qualities we search for in wine.
Over the years the blend formula has changed, but the quality has always remained unchanged. The 2015 Hapa Red is primarily Grenache (29%), with 21% Syrah, 19% Merlot, 19% Tempranillo, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot. It is not the usual GSM blend….in fact; it is not like any other wine. It is a very distinctly delicious red wine; This is a very food-friendly wine, or straightforward sipping wine, or wine for almost any occasion. Biba and I recently enjoyed a bottle with Cotolette Alla Milanese, and it was perfect.
For the entire month of May 2018, we are offering the Kaena Hapa Red 2015 at the reduced price of $48 per 750 ml bottle or $12 per glass. As Mikael would say “Aloha”.
If you travel to the Santa Barbara County wine country, the Kaena tasting room is located at 2880 Grand Avenue in Los Olivos. Don’t miss the opportunity to taste some outstanding wines.
