Wine of the Month for October - Il Poggione Rossi di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015 Montalcino, Italy

For the entire month of October, we are proud to serve the 2015 Sangiovese at the reduced price of $36 per 750 ml bottle and $9.00 per glass.

“To create wines of impeccable quality and style.” This is a philosophy that has resonated within five generations of wine makers for the families of Leopoldo Franceschi and Fabrizio Bindocci. Tenuta Il Poggione was founded at the end of 1800 when Lavinio Franceschi, landowner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. He fell in love with the landscape and the people who lived in that area and decided to buy land and establish a grape farm. More than a century later, Tenuta Il Poggione covers an area of 1300 acres including olive trees; the rest are dedicated to grain fields, forest and livestock.

This is a younger, more accessible version of Brunello, but already very well-developed with a strong character, Rosso di Montalcino is a very important wine for Tenuta Il Poggione. Produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes from the youngest of the estate’s vineyards, Rosso di Montalcino is matured for 12 months in large barrels before undergoing a period of bottle aging. Some have called this a “Baby Brunello.” In this wine, the intense ruby red color has fruity bouquet with red berry notes. It’s very well structured, yet soft, long-lasting flavor with smooth, velvety tannins. This Sangiovese pairs wonderful with pasta with meat sauce, roasted, grilled meats and medium strength cheeses.

Wine of the Month for July - La Pettegola Vermentino 2018 Toscana IGT Banfi

For the entire month of July, we are proud to serve the 2018 Vermentino at the reduced price of $36 per 750 ml bottle and $9 per glass.

Banfi Vintners is the sole U.S. importer of the Mariani family’s wine estates in Italy - Castello Banfi of Montalcino, Tuscany, and Banfi Piemonte of Strevi, Piedmont - as the exclusive agent for the family. John Mariani established the company on Spring Street in New York’s Little Italy. John Mariani named the company after an aunt, Teodolinda Banfi, a woman of eclectic tastes who supervised his early education and greatly influenced his views toward fine wines. Today the family still operates together, John Mariani’s grandchildren have kept up their grandfather’s expectations of excellent wine.

For this Vermentino, the weather conditions of 2018 were characterized by a particularly harsh winter, which delayed the start of the vegetative season, and then a summer that was initially cool and became warmer with quite a few rainfalls, a circumstance that allowed for having an excellent quality of white grapes.

While drinking this wine, it has a straw yellow tint, with unique hints of apricot, grapefruit, and notes of Mediterranean wood. Our halibut will pair well with this wine as well as our heirloom tomatoes making an appearance to this California summer season.

Wine of the Month for August - Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2016 Balade

Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2016 BaladeBelle Glos Winery produces distinctive Pinot Noirs from several California coastal wine-growing regions.
